Custom Manufacturing Instead of Standard Solutions

Reactive Resin Systems for Stable Production Processes

As electronic devices become more compact and powerful, industrial applications are placing ever-increasing demands on adhesives and potting compounds. Where standard products reach their limits, EPOXONIC GmbH develops customized reactive resin systems tailored to specific application requirements. These material solutions form the foundation for high product quality, reliable processing, and seamless integration into serial manufacturing processes.

“Standard products are often a compromise. As soon as multiple requirements must be fulfilled simultaneously, such as electrical insulation, thermal management, mechanical durability, and process-reliable application, an individually developed material becomes the more economical solution,” explains Ferdinand Gerblinger, Managing Director and Head of Development at EPOXONIC GmbH. Another challenge is that many standard products are only available above certain minimum order quantities. For smaller production volumes, customized solutions are therefore often the more practical choice.

From Application Requirements to Series Production

Potting compounds perform a wide range of functions. They protect electronic components, provide electrical insulation, compensate for mechanical stress, and support efficient thermal management. At the same time, they must be processed without air inclusions, dispensed reliably, and cured safely and reproducibly.

New requirements are currently emerging in power electronics, high-voltage technology, and sensor systems. Miniaturization continues to be a major driver of innovation. As a result, temperature resistance, electrical insulation, thermal conductivity, and long service life are becoming increasingly important, alongside economical and flexible processing within existing production environments.

Material Development Starts Long Before Production

For EPOXONIC, material development is inseparably linked to future serial production. At a very early project stage, not only the desired material characteristics but also critical process parameters such as viscosity, mixing ratio, pot life, degassing behavior, curing profile, and cycle times are taken into consideration.

“Although this may sound obvious, it cannot be emphasized often enough,” says Gerblinger. “We are frequently involved in projects where a material from another supplier performed well under laboratory conditions but failed to meet expectations in a real production environment.”

Dispensing trials and application-specific testing therefore provide essential insights before a material is transferred into serial production. If required, EPOXONIC supports customers with decades of expertise, acting as an interface between customers and equipment manufacturers and accompanying initial potting trials in its own laboratory.

“Material development for us means much more than supplying a product. It means delivering a sustainable and reliable overall solution,” says Managing Director Ludwig Guggenberger. “That is why we support our customers from the initial inquiry through laboratory development and sampling all the way to production readiness, and we remain in close contact afterwards.”

Consequently, a development project at EPOXONIC does not end with material approval. During serial production, the development and application engineering teams continue to support customers in responding quickly to changing requirements, process optimizations, or new regulatory demands.

Economic Benefits of Tailor-Made Materials

Custom-developed adhesives and potting compounds not only improve the functional reliability and service life of components. They also help stabilize manufacturing processes, reduce scrap and rework rates, and minimize the risk of customer complaints.

In addition, optimized curing profiles and improved dispensing characteristics can shorten process times and increase the efficiency of existing production lines. This enables manufacturers to enhance productivity while maintaining high quality standards.
